Untucked Woman: Christine Warner
Christine, what keeps you on-the-go?
As a digital marketer on Uber’s U.S. and Canada Regional Marketing team based in Washington, D.C., my work is a combination of content strategy, content development, project management, and performance analysis for our campaigns across email, in-app, and editorial channels. I am constantly learning and challenged. No day is the same—just the way I like it!
I am also a freelance writer on the side focused on lifestyle and marketing content for a variety of clients and projects including Verily Magazine and Fidelity. This past summer, I traveled to Poland for a freelance project for JMJ Youth. Writing has always been one of my favorite creative outlets, ever since I could read and write, so it’s a dream to do it professionally.
What's your day-in-the-life?
I’m most productive and creative in the morning, so my days begin between 5:00am and 6:00am. To get energized for the day ahead, I do some cardio and strengthening at the gym or go for a run outside along the National Mall or a local trail if the weather’s nice. After my ten-minute walk to the Uber office downtown, I settle in at my desk by 9:00am.
I avoid my inbox for at least an hour and focus on tackling my most taxing or creative task first, whether it’s creating copy for an email newsletter or preparing for a presentation. Protecting the early hours from distraction keeps my mind fresh and clear for creative inspiration. When the day gets going, I’m bouncing between meetings so it’s harder to get back in the zone.
I usually leave the office between 6:00pm and 7:00pm, grab a quick dinner on the way home, and finish up some work from home. To wind down, I’ll read a book, work on a freelance project, or catch up on a show. Whenever possible, I’m in bed by 10:00pm. It may be earlier than most, but I’ve found that I need a good sleep to stay positive and productive.
What do you wear to work?
I dress to feel confident and comfortable, opting for neutral colors and simple silhouettes. But I do mix in a splash of color every now and then! I’ve always worked at marketing agencies or tech startups, so I’ve been lucky to have a lot of fashion flexibility. Anything goes style-wise. Right now, I’m a big fan of form-fitting tops paired with high-waisted pants.
What's one of the most rewarding parts about your job?
We move so fast at Uber. Our technology, teams, and processes are constantly changing. This rapid change is necessary to keep up with growth and innovation. I’ve had to learn how to let go of my perfectionism in favor of progress—a hard but rewarding lesson. I have to remind myself to take a step back and recognize how much I’ve grown amidst the never-ending hustle.
What does an Untucked life mean to you?
An Untucked life means being your authentic self at all times without apologies. When you know and show your true self, it’s freeing to experience and beautiful to witness. This vulnerability applies not only to your interactions, but also to your style. Dress for yourself. Wear what makes you feel confident and brings you joy.
From your experience, what can we learn from you today?
Celebrate your weaknesses as much as your strengths. We’re so focused on fixing what we perceive as flaws, but often our strengths rely on our weaknesses. If you weren’t so disorganized, would you be as creative? If you weren’t so Type A, would you be as productive? Your unique set of qualities and quirks makes you irreplaceable.
